- Experience the passion of providing quality patient care in a variety of healthcare settings.
- Perform personal care procedures including taking vital signs, transferring patients, and providing therapeutic treatments.
- Practice health care techniques in a clinical environment using effective patient communication.
- Prepared for state nursing assistant examination and college nursing program education.
Prerequisites:
- This program is for students committed to a career in direct patient care.
- Students must possess a Social Security Number with no criminal record.
- Students must obtain their CPR certification prior to completing clinicals.
- The first year of the program will be direct care worker training. Students successfully completing the first year program will be eligible to sit for the state direct care worker certification examination.
- The second year of the program will be nursing assistant training. Students successfully completing the second year program will be eligible to sit for the state board nursing assistant licensure examination.

Through a Program of Study articulation agreement with Central Arizona College, students in the nursing assistant class are eligible to earn free college credit. The college defines entrance requirements which students must meet before the college will grant credit. Students are responsible for meeting those requirements and completing a separate college admission process.

Ms. Kerralah has 29 years of work experience as a nurse in a variety of settings and carries registered nurse licensure. Previously, she taught at the college level in the nursing department, and she holds bachelor and master degrees in Nursing. Ms. Kerralah joined CAVIT in 2013.
